about

As 2023 comes to a close, Diskotopia is proud to present Amaranthine — the final long player from co-founder BD1982. Amaranthine examines concepts of immortality across cultures, time, and technology as realized through an otherworldly lens of chronal-agnostic compositions. As with recent releases Distance Vision and Initiation Insight, BD1982 continues to weave decades of inherited sonics both past and present into some of his most assertive and emotive offerings.

Channeling vibrant, disparate inspiration from early Wax Trax! releases and Compass Point Allstars classics through the open-ended approaches of JG Thirlwell and Sonic Youth, Amaranthine covers vast realms while remaining steadfastly singular in its tonal execution.

Sentry evokes a ritualistic cleansing followed by the Suicide Club crunch of Lifeline. Earth Born and Metal Threads move into percussive chambers dripping with bio-digital melodic accents. Achronal Version and Embers Passed take on more metaphysical approaches – imagining the essence of a wormhole and spiritual rebirth, respectively.

The broken machine-funk and no-wave jam of Vines and Places We Find lead to the introspective Between Scales. The weightless Devotion unravels into Amaranthine’s kaleidoscopic title track. Never Die and Pylons offer cybernetic MPC-driven workouts as an ancient/future postscript to cap off the preceding ruminations.

As one door closes, so another opens as we stand at the precipice of infinity. Choices of the past may once again be repeated but we hope that the new ones made are rife with compassion, love and hope – a vision for an amaranthine future.
